Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) sampling

Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) concentrations can be used as a surrogate measure of the central nervous system's (CNS) availability of drugs. 

Systemically administered drugs can reach CSF either directly via passage across the choroid plexus or indirectly by passage across the blood-brain barrier (BBB), followed by diffusion/convection transport from the interstitial fluid (ISF) to CSF. 

CSF penetration in research model studies are used for assessment of a CNS drug delivery in early preclinical drug development. To perform a full pharmacokinetic (PK) profile of a compound in CNS, multiple CSF sampling time points are needed.

Cannulated and direct stick (rodent, canine, NHP) models are available, as are capabilities for serial survival sampling and colony utilization.
