EPA: Toxicity Estimation Software Suite (TEST) analysis (U.S.)

The U.S. EPA Toxicity Estimation Software Suite (TEST) is a quantitative structure‒activity relationships (QSAR) modeling system for predicting endpoints for a chemical without performing bioassays. It uses information on the chemical’s molecular structure to calculate physicochemical properties, such as viscosity and water solubility, and toxicity endpoints, e.g., bioaccumulation and acute aquatic toxicity. Modeling can identify potentially toxic candidate compounds at early stages in the development process, minimizing expensive experimentation. It can also be used to support the results of tests that haven’t met good laboratory practice (GLP) requirements. Regulatory authorities recommend running more than one QSAR model for each required endpoint.
