Explosive testing for hazard chemical properties initially involves a screening procedure, whereby new substances are suspected of having explosive properties and are associated with the presence of certain chemical groups in a molecule (reacting to produce very rapid increases in temperature or pressure). If the screening procedure identifies the material to be a potential explosive, the classification/acceptance procedure for the class of explosives is applied.
